Reminders of Past Endurance (vv. 32–34)

• In the past, they had "endured a hard struggle with sufferings."
• Love of God is not compatible with love of reputation/self/money/possessions.
• Endurance inspires endurance—especially in our own lives but also in the lives of others.

Exhortations to Present & Ongoing Endurance (vv. 35–39)

• "Do not throw away your confidence"
• "You have need of endurance" (NIV: "You need to persevere")
• What are motivations for endurance?
  • Our coming Reward
  • Christ's soon Return
• God requires (and produces) faithfulness in his people
• In understanding the Assurance of our Salvation, Perseverance of the Saints is more biblically accurate and helpful than Eternal Security or "Once saved, always saved."

As believers in Christ, we must and we will persevere in our faith by the preserving grace of our merciful God.
